HP Reveal

With the use of this software creating an augmented reality experience. Placing something that is not there but with the use of the app is there in real time and a real space. This is something I have never done before. Still keeping with my theme regarding Fashion trends. Bringing my own way of communicating with this through a series of layered Gifs.

The desktop software to make the work and the app to experience what I have created. I am not going to lie I feel disappointed with my experience of this as everything is running perfectly on my computer but feel let down by the app, yes in a way it does work but doesn’t always capture the work or pick up anywhere from my trigger image. Only one of my Gif’s runs properly using the app. Is this due to the complexity of my Gifs I am thinking is it due to the multilayered and high use of colour or just simply as its an app, which your not going to achieve the resolution as a stand alone Gif or animation would hold?

Am currently creating a presentation on how it all went watch this space for an updated version with visuals of this.

Experimenting through process

These drawings I am using a combination of collage and digital drawing. Making the content as a body of work has  been important for me to develop this into the next process. I have found working this way allows me to progress faster through process’s. As you can see exploring the removal of RGB on some of my work allows this really interesting transparent multi coloured effect.

Exploring moving image through digital drawing and combining with collage layers. With these Giff’s I have been exploring layering through altering opacity the image becoming translucent which enables me to layer up and play with whats above and whats below a bit more. With removal of RGB colours on certain layers I feel adds ore interest and gives more of a playful approach due to depending on whats above and whats below will affect the colour and impacts in a positive way to the transition of movement.

The Giff below I am thinking of developing this further and it needs run on a loop to hold the consistency as with it only moving three times it doesn’t make sense at this moment. Also am thinking of the background to be a transparent layer. So this will overlay another animation possibly.

Interactive look-book

I have been trying to figure this out how can I make this work? I am pinpointing towards two very distinct trends that are visible everywhere this season on the high street Animal print and Plaid. I’ve decided to stick to just two mainly due to the limited time frame I have to work through this process.

Trying to focus more around the colours patterns and fabric rather than it be a ‘fashion show’ and how I can communicate that? Can I lean into some underling subliminal message that could add a different take on it? Like within most forms of advertising one or more is always there its being able to read it when its not directly being pointed out!

I feel to find a way for me to see how this can work for me, is to see what has been done or what is being done to help inform and understand my own idea in my head.

I have never seen anything quite so amazing when it comes to fashion and technology. I guess if your not looking for it. Its not a thing that you would just stumble upon. Even though this is ‘Fashion show’ Does this mean that the potential for bringing a world to us through augmented reality and become part of something? or will in the future we become as much part of the show/ experience of everyone who has organised it looking at it through the sense above. With out the technology it would be models walking alongside a white wall. London comes to china literally with this experance

The Autumn/Winter 2014 fashion show by Goelia has been really impressive by offering an augmented reality experience to the spectators. Discover the new models in a colorful virtual London environment”

Yes Fashion can be looked at through the process of animation. This video shows there is so much you can do to give much more visual interest to a look-book or digital publication. The way in which the sequence comes to life for me takes me on a didn’t journey wanting to find out more and know more about brands or people that are using this process.

My own animation worked through stop frame within Photoshop, combining digital drawing and collage. building this multilayered GIF based around plaid fabric.

Making the invisible visible

So I am about to start my third rotation project of the semester. This project is about exploring the world in a different way through QR codes and augmented reality, using various software bringing something that is one thing to life through this process into another world when it connects with your phone.

Exploring space, time, connection and interaction through quick response. Allowing the viewer to access information that wouldn’t be accessible to them or giving them information of something as they approach a certain place.

My Idea

My thoughts about how I can approach this potentially are a bit to adventurous for the time frame but I am going to run with the idea even if it ends up not being exactly what I  would like to archive but a simplified version but will worry about that later.

  • Using Branding logo of clothing store or glossy fashion magazine as a trig gar image
  • Animation based around fashion sequence of current trends 2018/2019
  • Playing on the idea that it can be accessed before entering the store allowing you o have an over view of there current in store trends.
  • Using a combination of photography, drawing both by hand and digital combining these elements into after effects and editing in premier pro.
  • possibly making a series of three different sequences.

I am thinking if I use a brand logo like H&M as a trigger image, as the brand logo is distinct and does not change, I am thinking that I could access this at any store?

The content I will be making for the animation will not be based on there actual clothing range its more about creating the atmosphere of the current seasonal fashion trends around this winter.

The final two edits

The final outcomes:

Zine one: this is the final design of my fist zine. I am 90% happy with how this has come out if I had more time I feel Id like to re print and use a different type of binding for this. Looking at how I printed this by getting a better understanding how to use  in-position, which would line up my pages more accurate than they are currently. i think some of the composition I could also play around with more to crate more impact, thinking the double page spreads work the best. But its something I will be aware of. Potentially re-visit this project before the end of the semester 1 when it comes to assessment these are tweaks which wouldn’t take to long to change.

Zine two: This outcome was from what was designed for me with the development work I already had. I feel I may scale down the paper on this particular one. But would like to re-print and have it as a A6 zine not allowing for to much white empty space.

Between the two Zines I have made there are elements of both that I feel really work and elements that could be re evaluated. Maybe the answer to this is crating a zine using both but really exploring them both as one, focusing on exaggerating the composition and focusing on each page being a double page spread. But not necessarily filling the whole space being mindful of scale and composition how it could work in a different way within the layout.

Making a zine

My knowledge of using this process is OK, as long as I don’t over complicate it! The biggest thing for me that challenge’s me the most is it visualise my work being within the context of a zine. I find that I cant just make a prototype with notes with the page layout. Leading me to do more or that potentially is needed. Making a prototype with imagery even if I am using collage within the zine or printing on rough paper helps to give me a sense of order. I am very much aware that I need to find a more time effective and smarter way for me to work this process pre final design.

Above a really quick rough analogue mix of placement. Allows me to quickly work out the areas that are not going to work visually and what needs more development and refinement before printing the final thing.

Presentation when working with mixed media to create imagery think the biggest hurdle being once I start to layer and overlay analogue and digital into adobe illustrator or Photoshop, it can ascetically look prefect, but it doesn’t mean its going to print how it looks  on screen. I have had so much much experience with spending hours on something and its hard at times when the quality doesn’t match what is being seen digitally. I think this is something I am  becoming more aware of now I am leaning to using digital process a lot more to combine all the elements in the way I work. The answer is to print a series of contact sheets (keeping it small) which gives an instant visual mood-board. I guess in the same way I create my work on sheets of paper as can overview everything and reject work instantly.

I write the word in capitals as this is so important when making anything really. You could be the best illustrator, the drawing is to perfection BUT the paper stock is wrong can completely change the feel or mood of work, that’s my opinion anyway. Even down to the way the colour sits, saturation of colour, feel of the paper. These all are so important to consider when creating a zine that the paper fits with the ascetic of communication.
